I was an editor and a columnist for the Halifax Daily News in Nova Scotia for 14 years. I was a writer/broadcaster for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and a screenwriter for the National Film Board in Canada. I wrote several radio dramas for CBC-Radio, and was the writer and host of a 60-minute documentary on CBC-TV. In the US, I was an editor and writer for the Christian Science Monitor for 12 years, worked as a producer and Sunday editor for the Boston Globe, and was NPR's first full-time blogger. I'm a former executive director of the Online News Association in the U.S., and I was a Nieman fellow at Harvard in 1991-92. I'm currently a member of the Nieman's Advisory Board. I regularly write opinion pieces for The Arab Weekly, based in London England. I live near Washington, D.C.
